There are so many different reasons for a computer to perform slower than usual. For example, the hard drive can be terribly fragmented and needs a de-frag, or the hard drive can be close to totally full. A lot of times it’s due to a mal ware infection of some kind. Your registry can actually become slower because it’s fragmented and needs to be compressed, and it needs to be purged of older files that don’t serve a function, anymore. Very often, though, it is your registry that needs to be cleaned and compressed so it can run at normal speeds. You can safely, and quickly, perform all the maintenance on your registry using a program that will clean-up and repair, if needed, your computer’s registry. However there are tons of them on the net, and it can be a major pain researching and then choosing the best one for your situation.
